Gente del siglo 21 // People of the twenty first century (by Hans Eijkelboom)

Nos creemos diferentes pero parecemos todos iguales.

Este interesante proyecto fotográfico de Hans Eijkelboom merece una mención. Es una recopilación de cientos y cientos de fotos que muestran personas diferentes con el mismo aspecto. Generalmente son escenas callejeras en las que casi todo el mundo aparece con el mismo look: misma ropa, complementos o incluso aspecto corporal: peinados, silueta y hasta posturas. Quizá todo el mundo piensa para sí mismo que «es diferente» pero por fuera la verdad es que se nos ve bastante iguales.

Las fotos fueron capturadas en cualquier parte desde Amsterdam a Nueva York, de París a Shanghai. Después de seleccionar una zona peatonal concurrida en la ciudad, Eijkelboom pasaría horas en un momento observando a los transeúntes y centrándose en una determinada cosa…
Las instantáneas de Eijkelboom serían silenciosas y reservadas, capturadas con una cámara alrededor de se cuello accionada por un disparador remoto que guardaba en su bolsillo. Una vez de vuelta en su estudio, Eijkelboom organizaba las imágenes en cuadrículas.

We believe we all are different but we look like equal.

This interesting photo project by Hans Eijkelboom deserves a mention. It is a compilation of hundreds and hundreds of photos showing different people with the same appearance. They are usually street scenes in which almost everyone appears with the same look: same clothes, accessories or even body shape: hairstyles, and even poses silhouette. Maybe everyone thinks to himself that “different” but outside the truth is that we looked pretty equal.

The photos were captured everywhere from Amsterdam to New York and Paris to Shanghai. After selecting a busy pedestrian area in the city, Eijkelboom would spend up to hours at a time observing passers-by and focusing on a certain thing…
Eijkelboom’s snapshots would be silent and secretive, captured with a camera around his neck triggered by a remote shutter release kept in his pocket. Once back in his studio, Eijkelboom arranged the images into grids.
