Rodney Smith, que estudió fotografía en la Universidad de Yale en los años 70 del pasado siglo bajo la tutela del célebre Walker Evans, ha desarrollado una amplia y variada labor como fotógrafo y también como docente. En la actualidad enseña fotografía en la ciudad norteamericana de Santa Fe, Nuevo México. La original creatividad de su trabajo ha sido reconocida con numerosos premios. Está considerado internacionalmente como uno de los mejores practicantes contemporáneos de la fotografía en blanco y negro, aunque también realiza imágenes en color. La crítica ha subrayado el carácter surreal y onírico de muchas de sus fotografías.

Rodney Smith, who studied photography at Yale University in the 70’s of last century under the tutelage of the famous Walker Evans, has developed a wide-ranging work as a photographer and as a teacher. He currently teaches photography in the U.S. city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The original creativity of his work has been recognized with numerous awards. He is considered internationally as one of the best contemporary practitioners of the black and white photography, but also performs color images. Critics have highlighted the surreal and dreamlike nature of many of his photographs.
