La gran exposición retrospectiva “Body and Soul” (“Cuerpo y Alma”) del célebre fotógrafo norteamericano Larry Fink, presenta sus famosas imágenes de algunas de las celebrities más conocidas de los Estados Unidos dandose la mano con instantáneas de personajes anónimos que reflejan la realidad y los contrastes de la sociedad norteamericana.
En 1970, John Szarkowski incluye gran parte de las imágenes de Larry Fink en una muestra colectiva en el MoMA, inicio de una serie de exposiciones en los más destacados museos estadounidenses y europeos.
Sus diferentes trabajos comparten diversas constantes: el apego empático del fotógrafo a una sensualidad omnipresente y su capacidad para captar la gestualidad corporal, cuyo conjunto constituye un lenguaje universal. La piel, las manos, el sudor, los gestos cotidianos o las poses estudiadas impuestas por el estatus o reveladoras de la pertenencia a una determinada tribu todo ello es muy elocuente sobre el ser humano y su lugar en la sociedad.
Jóvenes beatniks siguiendo la huella de Kerouac, miembros de la alta burguesía neoyorquina, proletarios refunfuñones o guasones, boxeadores en el anonimato, top models, genios del saxo, pescadores o vendimiadores portugueses, estrellas de Hollywood todos humanos. La belleza del ser a menudo reside en los ojos de quien observa. Y si dicha mirada es condescendiente, seguramente se trate de beautiful people. Larry Fink no tiene parangón a la hora de sacar a la luz su identidad, tal y como son y eligen ser. Cuerpo y alma. Body and Soul.

The large retrospective exhibition “Body and Soul” of the famous American photographer Larry Fink, presents his famous images of some of the celebrities known in the United States shaking hands with snapshots of anonymous characters that reflect the reality and contrasts of American society .
In 1970, John Szarkowski includes many of the images of Larry Fink in a group show at MoMA, launching a series of exhibitions in leading American and European museums.
His different works share several constants: the empathic attachment to an omnipresent photographer sensuality and ability to capture the body gestures, which together form a universal language. Skin, hands, sweat, everyday gestures or poses studied imposed by revealing the status or membership in a particular tribe all this is very eloquent about human beings and their place in society.
Young beatniks following the track of Kerouac, members of the New York high bourgeoisie, proletarians grouchy or jokers, boxers anonymous, top models, saxophone geniuses, fishermen or Portuguese grape, Hollywood stars are all human. The beauty of being often lies in the eye of the beholder. And if the look is condescending, surely it comes to beautiful people. Larry Fink has no equal when it comes to exposing their identity, as they are and choose to be. Body and soul. Body and Soul.
