Los juegos ópticos siempre han atraído al ser humano. Lentes, luces, sombras… en definitiva, estímulos que nos ayudan a percibir la realidad de una forma distinta.

Las cámaras oscuras, datadas en el siglo X, son el comienzo de las innovaciones técnicas que derivarán en la fotografía y, posteriormente, en las artes cinematográficas.

La Cámara Oscura produce una imagen sobre una pantalla blanca curva horizontal, a modo de mesa, situada en el centro de una habitación totalmente oscurecida, pintada de negro. La imagen proyectada es en color, muy luminosa y refleja lo que está teniendo lugar, en el exterior de la torre, en ese mismo instante (imágenes reales y en movimiento).

A causa de la larga distancia focal de las lentes principales, el resultado es un magnífico efecto óptico que hace que los objetos situados a mucha distancia parezcan bastante cercanos. La pantalla sube y baja para poder enfocar las diferentes distancias. Las imágenes en la Cámara Oscura pueden girar hacia adelante y hacia atrás para visualizar las distintas partes del paisaje. Se puede ver por encima del horizonte a cierta distancia o por debajo de él para examinar detalles.

Hace unos años tuve la oportunidad de visitar la Cámara Oscura de Torre Tavira, en Cádiz. Es lo más parecido a estar dentro de una cámara fotográfica.

The Camera Obscura produces an image onto a white screen horizontal curve, as a table, located in the center of a totally darkened room, painted black. The projected image is in color, very light and reflects what is taking place outside of the tower, at the same instant (real and moving images).

Because of the long focal length of the main lens, the result is a beautiful optical effect that makes objects located very far seem pretty close. The screen goes up and down so you can focus at different distances. The images in the Camera Obscura can rotate forward and backward to view the different parts of the landscape. You can see over the horizon at a distance or under him to discuss details.

Some years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Camera Obscura in Torre Tavira, Cádiz. It’s the closest thing to being inside a photo camera.
