Ha muerto a los 93 años Louis Stettner, un retratista callejero que trabajó fundamentalmente en Nueva York y Paris donde no quiso perderse el ir y venir, la gente y las vidas que poblaban sus avenidas.
Louis Stettner, nacido en 1922 en Brooklyn, Nueva York, se dedicaba a la fotografía y a la pintura desde la década de 1950. En la II Guerra Mundial se alistó en el ejército como fotógrafo, cuando acabó la contienda decidió quedarse allí a vivir.
Aunque se formó en la cooperativa Photo League y tuvo como mentor a Sid Grossman, lo que más le influyó de esos aprendizajes fue su pasión por documentalismo con conciencia social. Trabajó para varios medios como las revistas Life, Time, Paris Match, Fortune o National Geographic y siempre se mantuvo fiel al blanco y negro.
Su ultima exposición fue retrospectiva que estuvo hasta el pasado mes de septiembre en el Centro Pompidou, París.

Louis Stettner, born in 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, was dedicated to photography and painting since early 1950. In World War II he enlisted in the army as a photographer, when he finished the race decided to stay there to live.
Although he was formed in the cooperative Photo League and was mentored by Sid Grossman, what most influential of these learning was his passion for socially conscious documentary. He worked for various media such as magazines Life, Time, Paris Match, National Geographic and Fortune and always remained faithful to black and white.
His last exhibition was retrospective that was until last September at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
