André Kertész colaboró en París con artistas tan célebres como Man Ray, integrándose en la bohemia del momento. Su talento para descubrir nuevas perspectivas le lleva, en 1933, a realizar una de sus series más innovadoras sobre el cuerpo femenino, ‘Distortion’, que consigue gracias a la ayuda de dos espejos deformantes de circo. Es en este momento en el que se siente fascinado por la “extrañeza de la realidad”, torciendo los cuerpos, jugando a desencajar las armonías, y buscando pliegues que investigan las posibilidades estéticas de la desigualdad.
