“I took it the day of his fortieth birthday. He danced with his company and directed the ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. I had seen him dance on several occasions during his heyday. Being with him in his dressing room was endearing. I took him a couple of pictures but I was not happy. He asked me if I would accompany him to see the beginning of the show between racks. I accepted and we saw together the first act. When he found that all was well, we returned back to the dressing room. Nureyev was soaked with sweat, and I knew I had a large photo in hand, something wonderful. He is the most beautiful and full of magnetism creature I’ve ever seen in all my life.”
